Mystic Whaler joined forces with the Channel Islands Women’s Sailing Association (CIWSA) for AdventureSail Day on June 28 for girls ages 9-14 who are interested in sailing. This event was free to all participants and their chaperones!

The goal of AdventureSail Day is to introduce young girls to new water experiences and female role models in the maritime industry. The day’s program included the history of women in sailing, teamwork and chain of command aboard a tall ship, sensing the wind and other sailing basics, environmental stewardship, opportunities to continue sailing, and potential maritime careers.

As they arrived for the day, each girl received a goody bag, sailing-related swag, and a commemorative t-shirt. They then spent the morning learning about the history and techniques of sailing. In the afternoon, they applied what they learned and went sailing. Most sailed aboard Mystic Whaler, and others sailed aboard private sailboats with volunteer skippers and crews. After sailing, Channel Islands Yacht Club hosted a buffet lunch including a debrief of the day and ideas for the future. Throughout the day participants interacted with women recreational sailors and women who work in the marine or science world.
